The art
of Jui Jitsu, which has also been known as “The Gentle Way”, is an integral
and necessary part of any realistic self defense system. The style consists of
grappling, falling, rolling and felling skills ,as well as, using joint locks,
pressure points, and joint manipulation. The system of Jui Jitsu I teach is actually a
sub art of Kosho Shorei Ryu Kempo and blends the arts based upon my experiences
and training in a variety of styles consisting in part of classical Japanese Jui
Jitsu, Kosho-ryu Kempo-Jui Jitsu under the Mitose line, Chinese Chi-Na (the art
of seizing and holding), Mongolian and western style wrestling, Dan Zan Ryu
Jui Jitsu From Henry Okazaki’s line, and Yoshitsune Ryu Ju Jitsu under the DePasquale
line. The teachings of Jui Jitsu are
progressive and knowledge and skills are accumulative. The more advanced the
technique, the less external force required from the practitioner. Jui Jitsu teaches the student not only how to distribute their own balance and weight , but that of their opponents as well. Early basics must be mastered in the areas of falling and rolling to allow the students to learn, practice and interplay with the more advanced felling and joint lock techniques. From the beginning, Jui Jitsu techniques teach the student how to use his opponents force and momentum against them. The Chinese Yin-Yang symbol is often a very useful visual aid when instructing Jui Jitsu techniques. An instructor can reference the black and white counterparts as representing the two opponents, interwoven yet competing for supremacy. Also noting that at the center of a each lies the essence of the other.
